Beta Mummy’s Hot Toddy Recipe

It’s been a while, but due to popular demand (“popular”, “demand”) I’m back for Beta Mummy…COOKS! with my recipe for Hot Toddy.

I use the word “recipe” in the loosest terms.  But I mean, I am heating something (water), and there is food involved (lemon, honey), so that is cooking, right?

Chucklemums Linky Week 21

Dear regular and devoted readers.  I’m  sorry I have been a bit lax on the doodling front lately – I’m afraid that real life has gotten somewhat in the way.  My “fans” (LOL) will know that FC#1 started school recently, so we’re still settling into that new routine.  I’m still (obviously, sigh) single-mumming it, whilst working almost full-time, managing a big construction project on site, and trying to sort out my divorce… my poor blog is suffering as a result.  However, I promise that this coming weekend I have set aside some hardcore doodling time.  (Not hardcore doodles, that would be sick and wrong…although could be rather hilarious…My linked post is the closest I’ve gotten to THAT sort of thing previously.)  Anyhow, I digress – do you think I’ve said “hardcore” enough times to trigger a spam warning in your firewall yet? – you will get some good old fashioned Alpha Mummy vs Beta Mummy doodles very soon.

Meanwhile, some things cannot stand still and wait for such trivialities as solicitors, mortgage companies and Type 6N granular fill.  Therefore, without further ado, I introduce the new and improved #Chucklemums blog linky!

#Chucklemums Week 20

Hi friends!  Welcome to Week 20 of the new and improved #Chucklemums, with the roarsome foursome. Yes, hips don’t lie, there are now four of us running the only linky to amuse your bouche into a mighty cackle. Your hosts are me – Beth (Beta Mummy), Fran (Whinge Whinge Wine), Sarah (Mumzilla) and Sam (Mouse, Moo & Me Too) x. Now, you…

Big School…But He’s So Small!

FC#1 started school today.

I may be a Beta Mummy, but I’m not a heartless bitch.  Even though I complain about my children all the time, and even though I spend most of my time with them wishing that they’d go to bed already so that I can get on with the serious business of wine-drinking, I do actually love them – honest!

On paper, today isn’t a big deal.  I work pretty much full time, so both of the Ferals have been in one form of child care or another since they were a year old.  FC#1 going to school means spending only marginally less time with him than I’m used to.  He was at the school’s nursery all of last year, so he knows the setting, he’s familiar with the uniform, he knows the staff and many of the other kids – he was excited and raring to go.

But it is a big deal.

Like An Urchin in School Uniform

My original Feral Child, FC#1, has his first day at school next week.  Determined not to start his/our first ever school year term as a totally incompetent, useless, disorganised Beta Mummy, I have taken steps to shuffle at least a little way along the Alpha/Beta Mummy Spectrum.

  1. I bought myself a new diary, and wrote the term dates in it (you’re impressed, right?)
  2. I sorted out the massive bag of hand-me-down school uniform I was given (ok, an actual Alpha Mummy would buy new).
  3. I named all the uniform!  (I know, I know – I needed a sit down and a glass of wine, too, to recover from the shock).
A doodle of Alpha Mummy and Beta Mummy at the park with their kids. Alpha Mummy's child are waiting patiently for their turn on things, whilst Feral Child number 1 has climbed onto the roof of the fort, and Feral Child number 2 is climbing up the slide. Beta Mummy is oblivious to this as she is looking at Twitter on her phone.

A Trip to the Park with Alpha Mummy & Beta Mummy

It has been pretty good weather this summer, so we’ve been making the most of it and spending lots of time outside.  As I’ve said before, this is not because I am an Alpha-parent – far from it.  It simply means less time for my feral children to trash the house.  Our trips out have included plenty of visits to the beach, and approximately 47 trips to the park…

#Chucklemums Linky Week 19

Welcome back to #Chucklemums for week 19! Mumzilla has just got hitched and is currently “pre-occupied” on honeymoon, so you’re back with me, Sam (Mouse, Moo & Me Too) and Fran (Whinge Whinge Wine) for another week! Last week of the holidays… Let’s make it a good un! Our two winners last week were A Life Just Ordinary with a post about…

Doodle of Beta Mummy and her kids in the shoe shop. It is not going well. Feral Child number 1 is having a hissy fit over having to try on shoes, and would much rather have the orange dinosaur shoes that the boring black ones. Feral Child number two is attempting to escape the shop, again.

In just a few short weeks, my oldest son (FC#1) starts school.  This marks the start of many new and exciting events, and many stressful and arduous, too.  The worst thing is that this September to September merry-go-round ain’t gonna stop now until, god, around 2031.  “Back to School” this year, for us, is simply “To School”.  For the first time, I am joining parents up and down the country in such joyful activities as stationery-buying (fun!), uniform-trying-on (much less fun), and…dun dun dunnnn…the buying of school shoes.
