Beta Mummy’s Hot Toddy Recipe

It’s been a while, but due to popular demand (“popular”, “demand”) I’m back for Beta Mummy…COOKS! with my recipe for Hot Toddy.

I use the word “recipe” in the loosest terms.  But I mean, I am heating something (water), and there is food involved (lemon, honey), so that is cooking, right?

When suffering from a stinking cold (think Man Flu), I find that off-the-shelf remedies are next to useless. So if I want something that genuinely will make me feel better (and if I have several of them, I’ll be at least past caring), I make myself a tried and tested hot toddy.

This is my hot toddy recipe. I’ve no idea if this is an authentic recipe, or indeed if there is such a thing as an authentic hot toddy. But this is my version and I like it. Here goes:

1. Stick the kettle on whilst huffing and puffing about how crap you feel and how if you had a nice husband who actually gave a damn he’d be doing this for you.
2. Whilst you wait for the water to boil, put a chunk of lemon in your favourite mug, or if you’re really posh like me (innit), one of those nice glass latte cups.
3. Add a shot of whisky (Scotch, not Bourbon). You can use any old Scotch, it doesn’t HAVE to be your husband’s prized 21 year old Lagavulin…
4. Make it a double if you’re feeling doubly crap – needs must.
5. Pour the hot water over the top.
6. Stir in a teaspoon of honey and if you’re SUPER posh, add a cinnamon stick.
7. Sip away to your heart’s content, groaning softly every so often, to make sure those around you know you are properly poorly.
8. Repeat as required.

Haha this actually sounds rather nice man flu or no man flu! With winter looming I’m thinking it would be pretty essential to have one of these warmers, right? #chucklemums

Ooooh I am liking the sound of this. What time is a reasonable time to drink whiskey? I assume normal rules don’t apply when it’s medicinal? #chucklemums

Sounds like a treat! Definitely aided by the groaning while you drink it just to alert the rest of the “selfish” universe that you are ill! There should be a cook book! Thanks for hosting #chucklemums

My mum serves everything in those latte cups so I reckon she’s proper well posh innit. 😂 With cold season revving up this is no doubt going to be very useful. #chucklemums Xx

Now I know where I’ve been going wrong, I’ve been doing the hot lemon and honey drill but without the alcoholic joy. I’m all set now…does cooking sherry work too? #chucklemums

At some point in my extensive drinking career I must have had a hot toddy. However, I cannot remember it, and therefore conclude that it’s high time I had another. Love this recipe! More recipes from Beta Mummy please! #chucklemums
